Such a fun evening welcoming the community to our @OpenAI Summer Meetup last night, just hours after launching GPT-5 and two days after dropping our new open models. What a week! Grateful to celebrate with developers and partners who helped bring these models to the world!

GPT5 thinking compares well with Claude Opus router issues
By
–
GPT5 thinking seems pretty good – up there with the latest Claude Opus AFAICT. But the router model on ChatGPT seems to have been trained to route far too much to the nerfed versions.

Add Think Hard to GPT5 Prompts for Better Performance
By
–
PSA: Add ". think hard" to the end of all your ChatGPT GPT5 prompts. In my testing, so far that has resulted in it using the competent model 100% of the time. And so far, not adding it has resulted in it using the crippled model 100% of the time, which has failed all my tasks.

GPT-5 Thinking paradigm represents frontier AI progress
By
–
It's totally fair! The thinking paradigm is part of the progress we've seen! GPT-5 w/o thinking is not frontier, GPT-5 Thinking/Pro is. That's like saying GPT-3 vs. GPT-4 isn't a fair comparison because a post-trained GPT-3 might be closer than vanilla GPT-3.

GPT-5 Coding Capabilities Far Exceed Original GPT-4 Performance
By
–
I get what you're saying, but do you remember what it was like to code with the original GPT-4? At best, you were getting a function or two out at a time, and more often than not, they were riddled with errors. Essentially zero agency. GPT-5 on the other hand…

GPT-3.5 and InstructGPT Performance Compared to GPT-4
By
–
GPT-3.5, and the only other one I can think of, InstructGPT, were a lot dumber than GPT-4. They were much closer to GPT-3 with some tuning + sanding on top. Back when InstructGPT came out, we actually kept most of our workflows on the OG GPT-3 as it worked better for us.
