OpenAI and the Department of War: controversial AI agreement
By
–
Who said opportunism at its finest? Sam Altman (@sama) Tonight, we reached an agreement with the Department of War to deploy our models in their classified network. In all of our interactions, the DoW displayed a deep respect for safety and a desire to partner to achieve the best possible outcome. AI safety and wide distribution of benefits are the core of our mission. Two of our most important safety principles are prohibitions on domestic mass surveillance and human responsibility for the use of force, including for autonomous weapon systems. The DoW agrees with these principles, reflects them in law and policy, and we put them into our agreement. We also will build technical safeguards to ensure our models behave as they should, which the DoW also wanted. We will deploy FDEs to help with our models and to ensure their safety, we will deploy on cloud networks only. We are asking the DoW to offer these same terms to all AI companies, which in our opinion we think everyone should be willing to accept. We have expressed our strong desire to see things de-escalate away from legal and governmental actions and towards reasonable agreements. We remain committed to serve all of humanity as best we can. The world is a complicated, messy, and sometimes dangerous place. Community note: Government officials have contradicted Sam's claim, saying OpenAI will allow the DoW to use their models for "all lawful purposes". This could allow for uses Anthropic refused to engage in, namely mass surveillance tools and weapons systems with no human oversight. x.com/undersecretary… — https://nitter.net/sama/status/2027578508042723599#m [Translated from EN to English]

Silicon Valley’s catastrophic AI narratives and universal basic income
By

Sam Altman Joins Anthropic as OpenAI Leadership Shifts
By
–

OpenAI’s yes vs Anthropic’s refusal due to Constitutional AI architecture
By
–
From @blevlabs
' AI: The deepest reason OpenAI could say yes while Anthropic couldn't is architectural. Anthropicʼs Constitutional AI bakes refusals into Claude at training time. Claudeʼs resistance to autonomous weapons and mass surveillance isnʼt a rule applied on top — itʼs -
Why OpenAI can say yes while Anthropic cannot due architecture

HUGE BREAKING NEWS: Why OpenAI and @sama could say yes where Anthropic couldn't. Hint: it's architectural. OpenAI can say yes while Anthropic can't BECAUSE OF HOW THEY ARE BUILT. HUGE analysis of all of X and everything is going on between OpenAI and Anthropic:

OpenAI’s “Department of War” Deal Raises Questions After Anthropic Denunciation
By
–
Did the “Department of War” just make the same deal with OpenAI that they denounced Anthropic for wanting a few hours earlier? Am I missing something? Or is this as crazy and capricious as it sounds?
