At the minimum, transparency in what queries lead to which outputs (interpretability), how this connects to educational principles/pedagogy, more evidence of how this may impact cognition, especially of developing brains, in the short, medium and long term.

Concerns Over Unregulated AI Technology Deployed to Children
By
–
How have we got to the point where we are rolling out untested/unregulated AI technology to kids while they are literally in the process of learning?!

Rival AI Companies Use PR Tactics to Discredit Competitors

Sometimes investors in rival ai companies actively brief reporters that things are hyped for marketing reasons! So I’d say it isn’t just a journalism vs tech industry thing..

Thiel-backed platform rates journalists via LLM, threatens source protection
By

A Thiel-backed platform to serve people who feel “misrepresented in the media”. Great piece about a wild idea. Imagine being rated a good journalist by an LLM for divulging sensitive source information to this startup, and being downgraded for protecting anonymity..

Reset needed: AI news coverage importance balanced with life priorities
By
–
Yep. Also there needs to be a reset in how we perceive AI as news. It’s extremely consequential (I say this as someone who has covered since 2012!) but there are other consequential & meaningful things in life worth paying attention to. There is currently info overload with AI.

Media’s editorial role in prioritizing human suffering and mortality
By
–
The media’s job is to make sense of the world, which involves making editorial decisions so we don’t overwhelm people, like a social media feed does. Ultimately humans (whether journalists, editors or readers) care about other humans – especially those who are dying right now.

Power Concentration in AI: Beyond CEO Altruism
By
–
Yes this is true, but my point is we should be preparing for the consequences of power concentration in AI, irrespective of CEOs’ characters. It’s a weak signal imo and we shouldn’t expect altruism here

Reporting on AI Leaders: Accountability Over Personal Attacks
By
–
I believe we should report on company tactics and actions of their leaders with real consequences, particularly as AI develops, but not quite sure labelling Altman as “sociopathic” or unlikeable illuminates me as a reader. 5/5

Altman’s Power Ambitions: Corporate Leadership in AI Ethics
By
–
Ultimately Altman is the founder and CEO of a private company with obvious designs on power, and we would be naive to believe he is anything else. Is he different to all other corporate/tech/AI leaders though? Feels maybe unfair to claim that is the case. 4/5
