Transformers prove new algorithms needed for AGI
By

Sam, in his typical ignorance, has it exactly backward. In the long-running argument between those who say scaling is enough for AGI and those who say we need new algorithms, transformers are a massive victory for the latter – they prove their point. https://t.co/6qg21K7HMP

« Position: Research on anthropomorphic misalignment needs stronger evidence » AI safety papers often claim that models are deceptive, calculating, or concerned with self-preservation, but many results do not show

Q-Learning by Inversion for Flow Policies in Offline RL
By

Q-Learning by Inversion. Flow policies should be excellent for offline RL, but their iterative generation of actions makes RL training painful. This paper transforms each flow step into an RL step, then uses inversion to recover

John Jumper leaves Google DeepMind to join Anthropic, a major victory

Holy shit!! John Jumper, one of the key figures behind AlphaFold and co-winner of the Nobel Prize alongside Demis Hassabis, leaves Google DeepMind to join Anthropic. A huge loss for Google DeepMind, and a crazy win for Anthropic! What is going on, especially at Google DeepMind?

FINALLYYYYY !!!!!!! BUT PLEASE @SebLecornu, DO NOT DISTRIBUTE THESE COURSES TO THOSE DAMN PROMPT TRAINERS WHO DISCOVERED AI LAST WEEK. For example, I suggest offering AI students in master's, bachelor's or doctoral programs the opportunity to go do 1 hour x.com/SebLecornu/sta…

AI Use Reducing Homework Effort Decreases Test Scores
By
–

More evidence, from a large-scale study in China, that using AI hurts learning if it undermines mental effort. When homework time drops due to AI use, so do test scores. Across studies, a theme: AI tutoring in support of classes is good, using AI to "help" with homework is bad.
