Yes but it also can’t be shut down or changed by some corporation and if it works for you the tokens generated are free.

Edge Computing and Local LLMs: The Future of AI Privacy
By
–
Been playing with Gemma running locally on my Pixel phone and it feels magical. To think that years ago we could not remotely imagine such a powerful LLM running in your pocket with no connectivity whatsoever. I wonder how many scenarios for LLMs will start shifting the cost to the edge to get "free" computing with added privacy and control over your data. I can't imagine how companies that only monetize inferencing and nothing else will stay above the water. Either they make/sell hardware or they must add value on top of it, otherwise they become mostly an inconvenience in the middle.

Alchemy: Standardized AI Research Environment from Tsinghua University
By
–
What's holding back the true scale of automated AI research? Tsinghua University's AI team, led by Asst. Prof. Jia Li, with key contributions from Lehui Li and Liyi Cai, introduces Alchemy, a standardized research environment. It's a 'pre-built AI furnace' that unifies all complex engineering tasks—from data processing to resource scheduling. AI scientists simply provide their algorithm (.py) and hyperparameters (.yaml) to run full experiments. This frees AI scientists from engineering burdens, drastically boosting the scale and efficiency of automated AI research across domains like recommender systems, time series, and graph learning, enabling high-concurrency experiments and continuous integration for new tasks. Do you know if the OpenCode thing was implemented as a system prompt filter? I assumed it related to API key usage instead

Open Source AI Energy Weekend: Moving Workflows to Local Models
By
–
It’s a great weekend for open source AI energy in the U.S. Been personally spending it moving some workflows to open models on my old MacBook Pros and desktop PCs.
