"Study isn't a replacement for doing" is true, but we talk a lot less about the inverse: doing isn't a replacement for study. You hear a lot more about the former because it's easier to bias towards inaction. But study gives you the n=many for you to figure out a new n=1.

It helped a lot of French students to get started in deep learning. FAIR-Paris has been hosting 20 to 30 resident PhD students, graduating 5 to 10 per year since 2018.

I left France 35 years ago, with the idea of returning. But once your kids grow up in one country, moving is difficult.
But I did better than returning: I created FAIR-Paris which was instrumental in jumpstarting the AI ecosystem in France.
It gave young scientists, engineers,
