Their goal is to legitimize the technology, so they place their guests onto TV and radio shows, have them say whatever is necessary to convince the people. Doesn't have to be true. Honest question, is anyone surprised at this stage?

Gosh, you're really not up to date. There have been verdicts in both U.S. and EU, and it was decided prima-facie infringement — requiring a Copyright exception. (Burden of proof was on defendants) In the U.K. there are no exceptions for commercial AI.

FYI: the code in 2016 used about 80Mb of statistics (convolution kernels) learned by training on ImageNet dataset. I since figured out how to make it work with random kernels.
