But you won’t debate me on near-term AI risk, either. (Many people would be excited to host such a debate).

Alignment concerns Yann perspective on AI safety inevitability
By

I did not say that about Altman; go back and look what I said. No idea the referent for Jacob. Yann does seem to think that alignment will inevitably come and that there is nothing to worry about.

AI Misinformation Risks and Democratic Impact Debate
By
–
1. See the debates we had on misinformation in November; he repeatedly minimized those risks. still does afaik.
2. Me: x-risk is unlikely but not to be ignored; short-term risk to democracy & from unreliable AI with too much power is more urgent -
AI Risks Are Real Not Fantasy Dawkins Critique
By

In your ability to follow a cogent line of argument, you sir are no Richard Dawkins. (Or NdGT) The idea that AI could cause harm isn’t fantasy; it’s already become a reality. Your ridicule of ideas you disagree is lame & as @paulg noted, it’s not going to age well.

Parked Vehicles vs Robocars: Key Behavioral Differences
By

A personned vehicle stopped on Gough St is not 100% equivalent. They are subject to social shaming, they often respond to horns being blown, police can move them on. They intend to move soon. They are not waiting for rescue. The opposite of all these are true for robocars.

I don't expect them to enjoy the paperclips. I don't expect them to have a worthwhile analogue of experienced happiness, or sadness, or wonder. I don't expect there to be many different minds experiencing different things and having empathy for each other.

Concerns about learning-to-learn research breakthroughs at DeepMind
By

Stuff I'd have plausibly thought, or talked about, w/r/t the learning-to-learn paper:
– oh no, one of the variants they tried actually worked
– oh no, people are looking in this general direction
– god damn it, Deepmind is still publishing shit like this even now that they have -
Unaligned superintelligence would convert galaxies into worthless material

I expect that unaligned superintelligence will overwrite all nearby galaxies with stuff that is not very interesting or good from even the most embracing, cosmopolitan viewpoint on accepting diversity as valuable. I expect mostly lifeless paperclips, or stuff worth that little.
