Disemployment is what happens when somebody loses their job. Unemployment is what happens when they can't find a new one. AI currently seems on course to produce disemployment; but it's bad monetary policy and labor policy that'd turn it into unemployment.

If we don't know it's harmful then there is no ethical problem asking people to volunteer. It can be an experiment according to the scientific method. (FWIW, it's why animals are used in the first forms of testing; still sucks but humans rationalize it that way.)
