Open source was in the DNA of Facebook from the start (e g. React, Open Compute…)
And the creation of FAIR 10 years ago extended that philosophy to open research in AI. I mean, there would be no ChatGPT without PyTorch. -

I agree. But to empower those millions of developers, you need an open platform on which to build.
Right now, only a few entities can build high-performance open LLMs, because they are so expensive to train.
Those entities are Meta and a few very well-funded startups. -
