Work Dystopia: Fragile Scenarios, Necessary Economic Vigilance
By
–
Dystopian scenarios about the disappearance of work are making a comeback after a year-long lull. Largely fueled by the Citrini Research report predicting a worker catastrophe in the short term, these scenarios rest on an assumption of radical and excessive automation; the idea of recursive AI is also present. Both on its technological and economic fundamentals, the report and these scenarios are generally very fragile. In the longer term, however, we must remain vigilant. One of the central points of the digital economy is its capacity to concentrate capital and circumvent regulation. The capital-labor distortion introduced by globalization could therefore increase radically if we are not careful. This is the subject of my latest article in Les Échos. Jinjie Ni Joins Google DeepMind as Research Scientist
By

Congrats and welcome @NiJinjie to the center of AGI (🇸🇬 branch). Taking highly technical and capable researchers like this and giving them a chance to be at the frontier to make tons of impact for Gemini has been one of the most rewarding things of founding & building GDM in SG. Jinjie Ni (@NiJinjie) Life update: I’ve joined @GoogleDeepMind as a research scientist to work on ✨gemini scaling and RL, under the leadership of Yi Tay (@YiTayML) and Quoc Le (@quocleix). I feel extremely fortunate to be on the critical path towards AGI and can't wait to help push the frontier of gemini capabilities! 🚀 — https://nitter.net/NiJinjie/status/2028471474265420141#m

It’s not just the AI that will be taking our jobs.

It’s the AI that will be making life or death decisions.
And the AI that might lead to needless escalation, maybe even nuclear war.#DeleteChatGPT https://t.co/uRa5cvOix5It’s not just the AI that will be taking our jobs.
