Francis also introduced me to the original "A Book from the Sky" by Chinese artist Xu Bing, who composed thousands of fictitious glyphs that resembled Chinese characters. Inspired, I named my project A Book from the Sky as an homage.

GANs latent space exploration through character animation loops
By
–
GANs biggest contribution was introducing the notion of "latent space" — the space of all possible images the GAN could produce.

Here, I generated short videos making "loops" around the latent space of individual characters, exploring their variations. pic.twitter.com/qOFpCaZvqzGANs biggest contribution was introducing the notion of "latent space" — the space of all possible images the GAN could produce. Next, I held the latents fixed while the character label is gradually interpolated, allowing us to visualize characters *in between* characters, exploring the conceptual space of Chinese and materialize imaginary characters that never were. pic.twitter.com/vOIMiEoMBj

Machine Learning and Creative Coding Convergence Journey
By
–
In 2015, my career looked something like machine learning engineer by day, generative artist by night. A bit dissatisfied by the incrementalist pace of pre-deep machine learning, I found an outlet in the creative coding world. By luck or fate these two worlds converged for me

Training Character Image Generation Models: Finding the Right Setup
By
–
My first goal was to simply generate still images of characters. It took a handful of training runs to find the right setup. It had not been obvious to me that it would work at all. This was eons before techniques like LoRA made finetuning on small and arbitrary datasets easy.
