@TimSweeneyEpic Tim, Lazar works for a "privately funded" think-tank that "informs public policy debates". He was recruited because of alignment of his opinions and can't change his mind without losing that affiliation: it's like chatting to a bot. Real humans change their minds.

Perhaps the culprit is not actually Enlightenment, but the institutionalization of the sciences as naively positivist midwittery in the 20th century, which led to methodologism and stagnant or regressive paradigms in psychology, sociology and the humanities?

It seems paradoxical that the Enlightenment led to an inability to rationally explain selfhood, gods and consciousness as psychological phenomena. The rebellion against religion liberated the natural sciences, but left an epistemological gap in understanding mind and meaning.
