It's totally fair! The thinking paradigm is part of the progress we've seen! GPT-5 w/o thinking is not frontier, GPT-5 Thinking/Pro is. That's like saying GPT-3 vs. GPT-4 isn't a fair comparison because a post-trained GPT-3 might be closer than vanilla GPT-3.

By
–
When viewed as a model family, this adoption is even more pronounced. The aggregated share of GPT-5 and its variants – mini (8%) and nano (5%) – accounts for 50% of the reasoning model usage across the platform over the past 24-hours. (2/5)

OpenAI dominance ends: dozens of incremental models flood market
By

the OCR conjecture: some examples include artifacts such as OCRV ROOT, which indicate the training data may have been reading between the lines: OpenAI is scanning books (for some reason the model loves mentioning how many deaf people live in Malaysia)

GPT-5 Launch: Cost, Speed, Context Impact for Leaders
By
–
GPT-5 launched yesterday. I had early access and here’s what stood out to me, and how I’d be thinking about it as a business leader right now. Three words: Cost. Speed. Context. Cost → Cheaper than o3, way cheaper if you use Nano/Mini. I do not recommend slashing budgets.
