"Data science" and "data analyst" became interchangeable as a result of some confusion and title inflation. DS ended up having to deal with the types of problems analysts dealt with (like tracking company metrics), while many open DA positions are looking for stats/Python

You can think of the semantic layer as a mental model that encodes business logic in the form of nouns and verbs. A Customer would be a Noun, while a Transaction would be a Verb. It's something that's well suited to interfacing with a natural language interface.
