I guess what I'm objecting to is the use of the term "AI" here, because it allows people to draw on the efforts of scientists in one field (people like you appropriately combining domain expertise with machine learning) to justify actions of others ("AGI will solve it all" types)

I don't doubt that data processing techniques are important for all kinds of science, including medical science. But I don't think that this is the same thing as saying "we can't possibly think about slowing down in the development of LLMs because AI will cure cancer".
