I repeatedly encountered this issue while reporting a recent story that explores how autonomy and AI will change future conflicts:

Survey on AGI existential risks debunked again
By
–
"Ord notes that in a 2018 survey of the top AI researchers, “half the respondents estimated that the probability of the long-term impact of artificial general intelligence (AGI) being ‘extremely bad …” How many times does this survey need to be debunked my god.

Scientists Express Concerns About Near-Term Artificial General Intelligence
By

"he near-term possibility of artificial general intelligence (AGI)—the ability of an intelligent agent to understand or learn any intellectual task that a human being can—has led many eminent scientists to worry" Oh lord he's one of THOSE smh.

Skepticism About Superhuman AGI Alignment Feasibility
By
–
Where the hell are you getting the idea that anyone anywhere will be able to align a superhuman AGI and use it for things? What the heck is wrong with people's brains that they skip over this step in their story? Does your brain decide that this step is boring so it's okay to

Doug Lenat’s Cyc Legacy: Symbolic AI Pioneer’s Ontological Work
By
–
AI lost a monumental scientist in Doug Lenat.
His work on Cyc deeply inspires me till today — not so much because he worked on symbolic AI but because of how far he'd taken it, through a multi-decade dedication.
I hope the propreitary Cyc work (ontologies, etc.) get open-sourced -

Historical Perspectives on AI: Turing, McCarthy, and Shannon
By

1/3 Read some history. "Machines Who Think", McCorduck 79 is a good overview. Turing '50 estimates 3,000 man-years of effort to get to human level, McCarthy&Shannon's 55 proposal for Dartmouth AI Conf explicitly says that computers can do it; also see their 55 "Automata Studies".

Understanding AGI: OpenAI’s Definition of Artificial General Intelligence
By
–
What is an AGI? AGI is artificial general intelligence. There's a bunch of different definitions for AGI.
OpenAI's definition of AGI is when these artificial intelligence systems can do all economically viable work that a human can do. -
40 Years at Stanford: AGI Predictions That Never Materialized
By
–
Next week, 40 years since I joined the tenure track CS faculty at Stanford AI Lab; had finished my PhD there in 1981. 40 years??? We all thought we would have AGI by 1983. Did that happen? No. Has it happened yet? No. In 300 years we'll look back: What were they thinking?!?
