AI Limitations: From Data Dependence to Learning Constraints
By

AI is akin to a student cramming for an exam, learning from a vast amount of past tests. Although its abilities are impressive, AI's dependence on data and supervised learning limits it.

They're lossy approximations, and we should expect more powerful agents to expend compute on avoiding the losses.

Accelerating AI to Reduce Human Extinction Risk
By

“If we want humanity to survive and thrive for the next 1,000 years, rather than slowing AI down with burdensome regulations, I would rather make it go faster.” @AndrewYNg AI will reduce extinction risk for humans.

AI doomers lack hands-on experience, confuse map with territory

“A lot of AI doomers have spent way too much time in front of a screen, and not enough time trying to build things with their hands. The map is not the territory, and an AI only sees the map.” @halvarflake

AI Against Brainwashing: Superintelligence as Solution

Nothing new here.
Religious and political dogmas have been brainwashing people into doing bad things for millennia. It will be much easier to stop superhuman AI from brainwashing people than it's been to stop conventional brainwashing.

Open Source AI Platforms Against Catastrophe Risk Claims
By

An article about my vociferous support of open source AI platforms.
Demis Hassabis, Dario Amodei, and Sam Altman (among others) have scared governments about what they claim are risks of AI-fueled catastrophes. I know that Demis, at least, is sincere in his claims, but I think -
AI Extinction Risk: Human Agency and Potential Salvation
By

My estimate is:
"considerably less than most other potential causes of human extinction"
Because we have agency in this. It's not like some sort of natural phenomenon that we can't stop. Conversely, AI could actually save humanity from extinction.
What is your estimate for that
