A valid complaint. Someone should consider building a CSIndustryrankings. Likely someone from Google, which would probably be on top of such a ranking. But release it with a more restrictive license so we could make a CSRankings equivalent that is receptive to the community 🙂

I think @CSrankings is a helpful resource. I don't care about the "rankings". But I like that it's a single place to find a *list* of people active in a research area. If you're a faculty in CS, you should make sure you're listed there. https://

Suppose some conference (top in its field) has a 25% acceptance rate. An author honestly believes there is a p% chance their submission is accepted. If p = 0, they shouldn't submit, it just wastes reviewer and author time. At what p is submitting "reasonable"? Explain why below.

I think arXiv is great for both types of work: no reason not to! The challenge is that we currently attach more rewards to work that is also in a conference: in hiring, plus more visibility, citations, etc. Should we reward one type of work much more than the other?
