And that scratches most of the "research validation" itch for me (don't lie, we all have it). My feeling is that other areas of ML don't have this type of community. More of a rat race, trying to get noticed. Focused workshops help alleviate this, but they can be infrequent 4/n

1. This seems unusually early for NeurIPS registration to open. 2. The registration fees are $375/$800/$1000 for student/academic/industry, which is a pretty typical breakdown for NeurIPS. Could industry afford to pay more? Cf. @FAccTConference
, which charges industry 3-4x more.
