This remains the place to be to keep on top of what is happening in AI, but for so many other areas, especially academia & non-tech business, it has become hollowed out. People in the real world are far more likely to say they know me from my LinkedIn posts now, which is weird!

I keep thinking about how Netflix offered a $1M prize for people who could come up with a good recommendation system in the early 2000s, and now LLMs just offer great suggestions out-of-the-box based on next token prediction alone. Neat.

I am almost certain there is no direct system prompt or tuning that makes Claude not want to tell you stories featuring humans and dinosaurs, it is just some weird emergent thing. This is why guardrails seem so challenging, a lot of them are the AI "using its judgement," oddly.
