All the talk around coding will be obsolete is too vague. AI can generate code and can help augment most tasks but you still have to know when and where to apply certain code. You'll still need to know coding in-depth to effectively utilise AI assistance. #AI #LLMs

The Problem of LLM Self-Awareness is More Complex

I am not claiming that LLMs are self-aware, but that the problem is more difficult than it seems on its surface. (Also, I am not a professor)

Testing LLM Expertise: Building Collective Evaluation Framework
By
–
As our research shows, AI has a "jagged frontier" – it is good at some tasks, bad at others in unpredictable ways. Testing AI is hard. We need a collective of experts in various fields agree to test each LLM generation as a way of seeing if AI reaches expert level in that area.

Claude3 vs GPT-4: Impressive Performance with Hallucination Concerns
By
–
Claude3 is super impressive. Nearly as good as GPT-4 on average from my usage so far. Congrats to everyone who worked hard on it! Here's my feedback:
* It does hallucinate way more than GPT4 — noticed it as soon as AINews switched to Claude3, including silly hallucinations like -
LLM Consciousness and Causality: Beyond Temporal Connection
By
–
The LLM is as much the product of an unbroken series of events "connected to the beginning of time", whatever you take that to mean. But that does not constitute any obvious causal relationship for the nature of either's consciousness.

It's so much better at coding. That's all it takes for me to switch.

Large Companies Prioritize LLM Utility Over Mystification
By
–
In my observation, none of the large companies is interested in mystifying LLMs. They want to sell a useful product, not a debate about metaphysics. Also, human culture depends on the exchange of ideas, not their taxation

Grounding LLMs with Context: Does Sensory Data Change Arguments?
By
–
If you ground the LLM consistently in a context (for instance by constrained them with sensory data, a personality model and memories of all previous interactions), does your argument change?
