I doubt free users will get GPTs since it will be a rev share model. I can see them doing something where, if someone signed up to Plus because they want to use a certain GPT, the creator gets a commission for converting someone to Plus (this is what Poe does).

GPT Store Revenue Share Model: Top Performers Only
By
–
I’m not sure yet. My guess is a rev share model similar to X and Spotify. But unlike X and Spotify, only the top percentage of GPTs will get the rev share. I don’t think everyone who makes a GPT and puts it in the store will make money. Only top x%.

GPT Monetization Strategy: Revenue Share vs Direct Pricing Model
By

I think if they let creators slap price tags on them from the beginning, it’s going to be a real mess. A lot of low-effort GPTs, charging high price tags to make an easy buck. I have to imagine it will be rev share from the beginning.

Legal Datasets and Market Economics for AI Training

This ignores the fact that there are estimated hundreds of millions of public domain or permissive licensed images. Research could easily continue with those… Further, if there's a market for data the prices will drop quickly and incentivise the creation of legal datasets.

Research vs Commercial Use: Legal and Regulatory Distinctions

Research is inherently different to commercial exploitation. There are often explicit clauses in laws & regulations allowing that. Don't conflate the two. It's a slippery slope fallacy.

Fair Use and Corporate Risk in AI Training Legal Debate
By
–
The fact companies claim Fair Use is only necessary if it's prima facie infringement—which legal scholars increasingly agree (see Workshop from yesterday). Given this, debating what's "legal" is weird because Fair Use is always case-by-case and corps intentionally took the risk.
