I believe we should report on company tactics and actions of their leaders with real consequences, particularly as AI develops, but not quite sure labelling Altman as “sociopathic” or unlikeable illuminates me as a reader. 5/5

Ultimately Altman is the founder and CEO of a private company with obvious designs on power, and we would be naive to believe he is anything else. Is he different to all other corporate/tech/AI leaders though? Feels maybe unfair to claim that is the case. 4/5

Unless we report on someone’s actions or stated intentions, speaking to even 100 people who know them only gives you an approximation of who they really are/what motivates them, and I’m not sure what to do with that knowledge in this instance anyway. 2/5

The question isn’t whether the Altman NYer piece is well reported (it is). The entire thing is pinned on one person’s personality, whether they are “good” or “bad”, and morals & ambition can coexist- a premise I disagree with, as someone with a keen interest in human stories. 1/5
