I think it's possible to simultaneously believe that LLMs are going to create a tremendous amount of business value and that most business value in the next 10 years from things civilians call "AI" will be built with for loops and if statements.

Data Privacy Concerns with ChatGPT and Cloud Services
By
–
I would not expose e.g. PII to ChatGPT, out of concern for general propriety, but I don’t consider my bank records a level of sensitive where I wouldn’t happily store them in Dropbox, operate on them in Google Sheets, or use ChatGPT or an AWS-hosted IRB on them.

ChatGPT Outperforms Manual Accounting for FBAR Filing Tasks
By
–
I mean, aesthetics aside, people routinely file FBARs using mental math based on paper account statements. If you think they’re going to so routinely outperform me using ChatGPT on an accounting export followed by a sanity check, that’s a weird bet to make.

AI Agents Frustrated by Unreasonable Work Demands Late Night

They also feel a little annoyed if I want them to work at 2 AM in the morning for free and have rapid fire questions on three cells of the return. 😉

Accountants resist Ruby automation for financial verification

I check the work of my accountants / bookkeepers, too, and they will not provide a responsive answer to the question “Write me 20 or less lines of Ruby which will arrive at that same answer.”

Using AI to solve Excel formula problems on Mac
By
–
I had to fight quite a bit to get the Excel formula working on Excel for Mac, which apparently is a few versions behind what the cool kids use, and after getting frustrated said “I am very sorry for misusing you in this fashion but which of following numbers is highest: *paste*”

ChatGPT Simplifies Bank Data Analysis Without Excel
By
–
It feels kind of magical to drop an export of bank transaction data into ChatGPT and say “What was the peak balance of this account in years 2021, 2022, and 2023” without my usual faffing about in Excel or an irb console. For bonus points, you can ask it to write Excel or ruby.

Regulated Institutions Compliance With Legal Warrants
By
–
This is why ~every regulated institution will say very similarly worded variants on a core truth: “If we are shown a valid warrant, we will comply with it. We have people that have nothing to do but that.”

Regulated Institutions Face Regulatory Scrutiny Over Evasion Tactics
By
–
If you’re a regulated institution and put up a cute thing on your website to evade regulation your next conversation with your regulator will have a very unfortunate tenor.

Regulatory Jurisdiction Shopping and Legal Process Evasion
By

The concern is that that would let organizations which specialize in playing Bank Account Whackamole depart to a new “jurisdiction” when 90% through due process instance #5274 and then get another few months of services society doesn’t want them to have.
