“How would I get distribution for it?” One way is to build an easy way for accountancies to just send a link to their customer then never think about it again, rather than having a protracted conversation and data gathering step that customers hate paying for.

Solo Developers Overcoming Regulatory Barriers Through Creative Solutions
By
–
“There has to be a regulatory reason that a solo dev couldn’t do this.” I bet you it is not a reason that a creative solo dev could not overcome via some combination of reading, writing, and possibly figuring out a way to contract with Enrolled Agents in a piecework style.

Building Glue Code and UI for Mass-Market Forms
By
–
I mention this because a) I would of course happily have used a random small software business to file this form that I care about a lot less than many forms and b) there are MANY forms in the world filled out by 100k+ people that need a bit of glue code and UI.

ChatGPT automation reduces accounting data entry costs
By
–
I will be invoiced $1,200 by an accountancy to do data entry on filing FBARs this year. My process for generating the data their filing involved a bit of ChatGPT and Excel, but since I don’t have an API integration with FinCEN paid them so I didn’t have to try to retype things.

Political Pressure and Algorithmic Discrimination in Financial AI Systems
By
–
Some people want the power to coerce particular actors such as e.g. banks to do things they want like e.g. extend credit at preferential terms to demographics they care about, and if your for loops and if statements don't do that, they will say "That is discriminatory AI then."

Regulating Loops and Conditionals: Scope and Impact
By
–
"Should we regulate for loops and if statements?" We inevitably regulate for loops and if statements, because we regulate things that happen in the world and some things happen in the world because of FL&IS. But we should probably not increase reg scope *because* of the FL&IS.

AI Regulation Targets Basic Programming Constructs Not Real Issues
By
–
Note that an unfortunate corollary of this is that when people talk about regulating AI they frequently mean regulating for loops and if statements, and some of the people saying that understand exactly what they're saying and do not consider that a bug at all.

Senior Management Uses AI Branding for Basic Automation Solutions
By
–
And it is, but if senior management was actually brought to implement pedestrian workflow automation and SQL by calling it AI and saying they'd be able to brag to their buddies about their new investments in cutting edge technology, then… yay?

Japanese Insurer Uses AI System for Claims Response Automation
By
–
I'm remembering a particular Japanese insurance company here, which debuted an AI system to enforce the invariant that, if you mail them a claim, you get a response that same month. Now plausibly you might say "That sounds a lot like pedestrian workflow automation and SQL."
