I think it is more nuanced. It is true that visas exclude people, and sadly even among African countries visas are an issue. There is also bias in the sense that these meetings mostly occur in Europe and north America. It is costly and demanding to travel to these conferences

I’ve been attending these conferences since 1997 so I have a sense for their history, and I disagree that it was like this pre-Covid or pre-GPT3. Also, I’m not saying that this is a good or bad thing (no judgement), it just is. I find it interesting, and worth reflecting on.
