Both, but (like you) I'm most impressed by the contributions to community projects. Big contributor to Postgres, MariaDB, Redis, and more. Lots more to do but it's a good direction they're heading.

On vs code, quite possibly. But it's Google that really shines in open sourcing big, influential projects that become community property. Not a strength yet for AWS (or Microsoft). But who knows? Things change. I'm an optimist.

Right. No guarantee it will continue and MSW is correct that it's always about individuals EXCEPT that historically many service teams didn't budget for oss work. Now they increasingly do. That's a corporate req that makes the individual work possible. Let's hope it continues

Google is a fantastic contributor and also has the distinction of contributing some big projects like K8s and TensorFlow. So this isn't about AWS being better than Google (it's not) but rather about finally doing really well.
