Anyone have experience using public data APIs to build custom reporting tools? I'm experimenting with using APIs and AI to build custom research tools for journalism. Would love to chat, especially if anyone has advice on how doing it as a non-developer & as a team of one.

New Yorker Investigation Examines Sam Altman and OpenAI Concerns
By
–
The @NewYorker
's new story about Sam Altman is very worth reading. @RonanFarrow & @andrewmarantz interviewed 100+ people and reviewed docs about various concerns with Sam & OpenAI. The incisive kicker might also make people ask if ChatGPT's sycophancy is a bug or self-portrait. -

Massive cuts to basic science funding threaten American scientific leadership
By

Basic science funding to be cut by more than half. No funding of any social sciences including economics. This is a gift to China, and an extinction level event for American science. quant (@quant_____) Wow — https://nitter.net/quant_____/status/2040254351956988134#m

TBPN reconsiders acquisition stance with OpenAI’s increased funding
By
–
But I can't help recalling a 2025 story in WSJ by @DollyDeighton, where TBPN said it had no interest in fundraising or getting acquired. But if it was a good offer & they keep editorial independence, selling makes sense — especially if OpenAI now has $122 billion more to burn!

Media Deal Raises Questions About Competition and Guest Booking
By
–
Fascinating media deal. Seems like it would present an immediate problem with guest booking and advertising – if you compete with OpenAI, why would you boost a competitor… Dylan Abruscato (@DylanAbruscato) TBPN will remain an independent platform for founders to share news, launch products, and interact with the most engaged audience in tech. We’ll maintain full editorial control while working with OpenAI to scale the show’s reach and production. See you at 11a PT, every weekday. — https://nitter.net/DylanAbruscato/status/2039758338519667169#m

Microsoft’s Contract Renegotiation with OpenAI Enables Superintelligence Pursuit
By
–
New terrible definition of superintelligence just dropped: Hayden Field (@haydenfield) Mustafa Suleyman says renegotiating Microsoft’s contract with OpenAI “unlocked [Microsoft’s] ability to pursue superintelligence." Though his new JD at Microsoft AI was only made public last month, he'd been preparing for the transition for 6-9 months. theverge.com/report/905791/m… — https://nitter.net/haydenfield/status/2039705728416362864#m
