Folks deeply involved in cancer biology and treatment have worked on these kinds of things for many years. "Instinctive skepticism" is no substitute for closely listening to them.

Very interesting. My perspective is that the private sector is mainly scaling/commercializing research. Which is also valuable, but I tend to think of that as stuff that would naturally happen anyway. So lower societal impact for individuals wanting to make a positive impact.
