You don't want to wait until there's an artificial pandemic tearing through civilian populations, in order to figure out how to ban AI uses and assess your ability to hunt down violators. You want to start early, and before the thing you ban is fatal.

Extreme Risk Warnings and Calls for Caution on AI Development
By

And this is going past the bounds of common fucking sense, which says that if you fucking accept that something is 96% likely to kill everyone on the planet, back the fuck off, work on human intelligence augmentation, and sign up for cryonics if you're so fucking scared.

ASI Risk Calculus: Accelerationists’ Paradoxical Life Expectancy Arguments
By
–
It is subtweeting a recent claim, favorably reposted by famous accelerationists like Cremieux, purporting to calculate (and speaking favorably of the calculation) that your personal life expectancy is higher so long as ASI has a <97% chance of killing everyone.

Rejecting Fatalism in ASI Safety Discourse
By
–
Lads, the point of this post is not, "I analogized ASI to a falling asteroid, therefore I proved it's dangerous." We have a book and online resources about that. This post is about the selfish evil stupidity of "But everyone dies anyways lol."

By

Lightcone and MIRI both essential for human survival and community
By

On my read of things, both Lightcone and MIRI are necessary. If the world will be saved at all, it will be saved by people, and those people need community to stay alive and sane and in contact with each other.

MIRI’s Role in AI Alignment Research and Theory
By

MIRI is the organization that I founded in 2000. In the old days it did most of the deep theory on alignment research, if you filter out the wacky optimistic hopium. MIRI is approximately the only organized group on the planet where you can ask "So what goes wrong if you just
