I never let AI write my drafts, but I do ask for feedback when I am done writing (which I am aggressive about ignoring). So I was amused by this suggestion from Claude. Yes, I agree, and I love em-dashes! But you are the reason why I am reluctant to use them in my own writing.

Specific posting about AI model releases and weights
By

Rather than vague posting about upcoming releases, you can get the same effect from very specific posting. “Very excited about the new release, and I think you can see why from these weights: [0.0178, -0.0921]”

Robots.txt Policies for AI Labs Web Crawling Access
By

I think it has actually been very unclear. The robots setting prevents crawlers which may include search indexing or other activities from the AI labs. Is there some documentation about this?

US Open Weight Models Lead: Sustainability or One-Off Advantage?
By
–
The US now likely has the leading open weights models (or close to it)… … but the real question is whether this is a one-off situation from OpenAI, in which case the lead will evaporate quickly as others catch up. But also unclear what their incentives are to keep updating.

Small Model Hallucinations: Benchmark Concerns and Early Assessment

One worry, reflected in the benchmarks, is hallucinations. A common small model problem, but too early to know how big a deal it is.

OpenAI Open Weights Models Outperform Earlier Generation AI
By
–
The OpenAI open weights models are very impressive. These basically beat every model from eight months ago & the small one runs on a laptop. For example, when HLE came out in January, the top score was 3-4%. Been playing with the models and so far they feel like their scores.

I am not sure why the first week of August is Everyone Releases Big AI Stuff Week, but here we are. And, if it makes you feel better, no one is keeping up right now.
