People with privilege will often confuse any reduction in that privilege with oppression — and that doesn't feel safe. But if you don't confront and rebalance imbalances of power, then those who have never been safe will continue to be unsafe.

More generally: a safe space for everyone has to mean that those entering with the least power/privilege feel as safe as those entering with the most. And I don't think that can be achieved without accounting for power.
