It's a lot easier to institute a "we only hire seniors" policy when the market is flooded with ex-FAANG seniors who are willing to take a lower salary than previously due to all of the competition for jobs

I will suspect that the man reason junior hiring dropped in the last three years is that Google/Microsoft/Meta etc laid off hundreds of thousands of qualified seniors, which meant juniors were losing out to seniors in the job market
