The word “ban” is magic. It can make eyes roll and an entire room uncomfortable. You know what’s more uncomfortable? Death by drought and wildfires. We need water, not LLMs. Ban them until they use no water or other people’s IP. #banLLMs

LLMs = Large Liquid Models. Whatever the benefit of various GenAI tools if they use 1/2 a liter of water for each 15 minute interaction their gross excessive use of water is beyond “potential harms” or “risks” and is intended. We need water. Not LLMs. Ban them.

Stop building tools that knowingly cause harm (not just “risk”) to our hurting planet until said tools don’t use water. This would bring real awe – prioritizing planet and people over productivity and profit.

What I find remarkable is the continued research showing how much water is used (1/2 a liter for every 15 minute LLM interaction according to a recent paper from Cornell) for GenAI while so much of the world burns and is in drought. We don’t need hallucinations. We need water.
