My plan for that is to not do anything on my instance that makes other instances want to block me! I've got used to my messages not showing up elsewhere for a few minutes (up to ~40 minutes in some cases) My current hunch is there's low hanging fruit for improving performance

That's a clever thing about how they've built Mastodon: it makes no difference at all to the vast majority of users if one instance became mainstream vs hundreds I'm running my own unique instance with just a single user – me – and all of the features I care about work just fine
