There are many ways to support fellow computer scientists beyond the ways you mention. One of the most important ones is to make people feel like they belong. I can imagine it's easy to feel like an outsider when few people in your field look like you.

Yes. Correspondingly, pretty much everyone here is going to be senior. But I know some young researchers who I would consider "top." Also, a strong field bias. ML has many more citations than… everything else right now. That doesn't mean ML researchers are inherently better.

Yes, that people are hypocrites. They are very directly contributing to the same problem they complain about. We should just do away with the response period since no one has time for it (neither authors nor reviewers).

This is emblematic of human behaviour more broadly. We see the best in ourselves, but the worst in others. If reviewers don't respond, they are lazy or ignorant. If we don't respond, it's justified since this week was just so crazy busy! But both are the same people.
