Staff Engineers Struggle Finding Time for Technical Hobbies
By
–
Partly I think it is a reflection of the advertising business model, and partly it is that this particular hobby skews in a quirky way, with a lot of e.g. staff engineers aspirationally wanting to do it but never having had the time to get good, because they were too busy at job.

GPT Generates Fantasy Dragon Art from Miniature Description
By
–
It is just ridiculous that this works. (The model is very unfinished, but I thought a visualization might help, and GPT delivered.) Prompt was “Here’s a WIP miniature. Depict this dragon in an appropriate D&D setting, using classic fantasy art style.”

Startup Visa Adoption Lags Behind Points-Based Immigration Policy
By

Many people who would qualify would also qualify for points-based immigration, which is slightly preferable. I hear adoption of the startup visa is less than expected. As always, I have vanishingly little to say publicly about immigration policy, but have an open inbox.
