Diaspora (1997) is excellent zoom-out sci fi. Impressive that it was written 26 years ago — feels particularly worth reading now.

Think there's also not a ton of incentive to innovate at this point. Assume printing is getting less and less common, and the companies still printing a lot are the least likely to adopt new tech / already have relationships with their Xerox rep etc..
