It's by no means a perfect technology. There's lots more work needed to scale production, not to mention in ensuring they deliver energy that's high-powered, not just long-lasting. But it makes me optimistic. (TBD whether we'll be able to bring these in checked luggage.)

It's not the diamond itself that powers the battery—it's small amount of Carbon-14 trapped inside the diamond and slowly decaying.
Emphasis on "slowly". Carbon-14's half-life is 5730 years. Your typical lithium-ion battery lasts perhaps a decade (if you're lucky/careful).
