Neeva had raised around $77.5m from investors including Sequoia and Greylock, led by former Google ads boss Sridhar Ramaswamy. It sold to Snowflake for $150m, per what I’ve heard, and snowflake was one of multiple companies evaluating it.

Snowflake Acquires Neeva: AI Search Engine Acquihire Trend
By
–
Earlier this week Snowflake acquired Neeva, a startup trying to make an ad-free search engine powered by generative AI. But it didn’t acquire a search engine—and stories like Neeva’s acquihire are ones that we’ll see a lot in the coming years.

Apple PyTorch Support Could Reshape AI Model Development
By
–
Realistically the biggest wild card would be some kind of extensive PyTorch support from Apple, which could alter model development workflows—but would not break Nvidia’s grip on foundation models.

Foundation Models Converging on Nvidia Hardware Dependency
By
–
Foundation model developers—including at least one beyond Google/FB/OpenAI that I know of—will all be relying on Nvidia hardware going forward. The OSS/smaller model devopers might swerve (maybe w/ Apache TVM) but will also most likely rely on cuda-enabled hardware.

With Nvidia going nuclear today would just re-up my last piece about how Nvidia has built a stranglehold on ML training with its A100/H100 series and, more importantly, Cuda’s deep connection with PyTorch.

Hugging Face: Critical Infrastructure for AI-Powered Web Evolution
By
–
HF is increasingly a critical part of the AI model development infrastructure, and by extension (because everything will have these language and diffusion models in one way or another) what will go on to be the NEW modern web. (Since web3 is taken we can call it webGPT I guess.)

Azure AI Studio Expands Model Access Through HuggingFace and OpenAI
By
–
The model catalog allows developers using Azure AI studio to tap models through now both HF and OpenAI, along with other OSS models. HF is also basically the home of every niche and long tail OSS model that you can imagine.

Hugging Face Strengthens Microsoft Azure Partnership Toward ML GitHub
By
–
Hugging Face has been tying closer with Microsoft/Azure, bit by bit, for the past year. It was valued at $2B last year in a round led by Lux that included Sequoia to be the GitHub of ML. An integration like this shouldn’t go unnoticed, because it gets it closer to that goal.
